1,4-Dihydroxyanthraquinone has a molecular formula of C₁₄H₈O₄. It appears as a bright orange powder and forms orange crystals when precipitated from acetic acid. It is formally obtained by replacing one hydroxyl group with two hydrogen atoms of anthraquinone.
1,4-Dihydroxyanthraquinone is an important chemical intermediate, mainly used in the production of intermediates for vat dyes, disperse dyes, and reactive dyes. It is a key component of the small-cell lung cancer targeted drug invented by Harvard University in the United States in 2012.
